چکیده

We predict the existence of transverse electric (TE) plasmons in bilayer graphene. We find that their plasmonic properties are much more pronounced in bilayer than in monolayer graphene, in a sense that they can get more localized at frequencies just below ~ω = 0.4 eV for adequate doping values. This is a consequence of the perfectly nested bands in bilayer graphene which are separated by ∼ 0.4 eV.

We predict the existence of transverse electric (TE) plasmons in bilayer graphene. Dielectric screening and plasmons in AA-stacked bilayer graphene

The screening properties and collective excitations (plasmons) in AA-stacked bilayer graphene are studied within the random phase approximation. Whereas long-lived plasmons in single-layer graphene and in AB-stacked bilayer graphene can exist only in doped samples, we find that coherent plasmons can disperse in AA-stacked bilayer graphene even in the absence of doping. Moreover, we show that th...

Transverse-electric plasmonic modes of cylindrical graphene-based waveguide at near-infrared and visible frequencies

Transverse-electric (TE) surface plasmons (SPs) are very unusual for plasmonics phenomenon. Graphene proposes a unique possibility to observe these plasmons. Due to transverse motion of carriers, TE SPs speed is usually close to bulk light one. In this work we discuss conditions of TE SPs propagation in cylindrical graphene-based waveguides. We found that the negativity of graphene conductivity...

Tunneling Plasmonics in Bilayer Graphene.

We report experimental signatures of plasmonic effects due to electron tunneling between adjacent graphene layers. At subnanometer separation, such layers can form either a strongly coupled bilayer graphene with a Bernal stacking or a weakly coupled double-layer graphene with a random stacking order. Effects due to interlayer tunneling dominate in the former case but are negligible in the latte...

2 8 Fe b 20 08 Tuning gap in bilayer graphene

Opening, in a controllable way, energy gap in graphene electron spectrum is necessary for many potential applications, including an efficient carbon-based transistor. We have shown that this can be reached by a chemical functionalization of bilayer graphene. Using various dopants, such as H, F, Cl, Br, OH, CN, CCH, NH2, COOH, and CH3 one can vary the gap value smoothly between 0.64 and 3 eV and...
